Super Bowl Sunday

Super Bowl Sunday. Everyone is going to be talking about it and rightfully so! But the interesting thing is that there may be equal or more posts about the food people are serving for the Super Bowl. There will be queso and dip recipes, cocktails, you name it!

This made me think, what would be our Super Bowl Sunday menu. Would we go traditional, minimal or make up our own traditions? (I’ll tell you right now, it’s likely the latter!)

But, first, a little more about my taste profile. My husband and I love Mexican food and we are also gluten-free. This makes it somewhat of a challenge but an easy challenge to accept. Being gluten free was difficult in the beginning but now that we are so used to it, it is hardly an issue now. So here is our Super Bowl Sunday gluten free menu! I hope you enjoy it.

Tip of the Day: How to check if an avocado is ready

Sometimes, just feeling how soft the avocado is may not be enough or could lead you to an overripe avocado. If you take the little piece of what remains of the stem and pull it out of the little hole, you should be able to get a glimpse of the avocado’s color.  If it seems like really light green, it may be under ripe. Any shade of brown basically means it is no good!

(This trick will not work if the stem is loose or no longer there.)

Homemade Guacamole (Serves 2-4)

4 avocados

1-2 tomatoes, depending on size

¼ cup Green onions

¼ cup Cilantro

1-2 limes

Salt, to taste

Crudités and Hummus

We like to have cut up carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers and sugar snap peas along with farmer’s market hummus, so it is as fresh as possible. We like to get red pepper hummus or cilantro hummus but you should get whatever tastes good to you.

Cheese Platter

We will grab Glutino gluten free crackers (sea salt flavored) to pair with our cheese platter. We will also grab some mixed olives from Trader Joe’s as a salty side! Our cheese selections include: Gouda, Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese, Piave and maybe even a little Brie. Again, you should definitely choose your favorite cheeses but these are ours.
