“Where shall I begin, please your majesty?”

This quote from the brilliant work that is Alice in Wonderland, ends with the King saying, “Begin at the beginning, and go on till you come to the end;then stop.”

What profound words for a children’s story!

But I guess, in many ways they are not profound at all. Sometimes it seems that the most simple things become profound because of how easily we forget them. The actual excerpt notes that the King “gravely says” to start at the beginning and go until you reach the end. Maybe that’s because it can be such a long and tiring journey, where every fiber of your being wants to turn back.

I like to think about this quote on a smaller scale. So often, I can get frazzled and feel like I began thousands of tasks but finished nothing. I don’t know about you but I’d imagine this is a common feeling. So I’ve posted this quote in my cubical at work to remind me of how important it is to focus. And I mean, focus on what you CAN achieve, not just what you can start.
