Just an ordinary eye twitch, right?

Okay, I’m sure you are thinking to yourself, “What is this girl doing writing a blog about an eye twitch?” Well, I would bet that you have had an eye twitch at some point so that means that this blog is at least worth skimming, right?!

So, I get eye twitches often. Thankfully, I don’t think anyone else can tell but it is very annoying to me, as I’m sure you can understand. One day, when my husband was frustrated by the nuisance that is an eye twitch, I finally decided to figure out WHY this happens. There had to be a reason right?

Well, there are actually a lot of reasons and that’s why I decided to write this blog. I always thought of an eye twitch just as a random thing that would be a mystery all of my life. Like the hiccups. Or why yawns are contagious. Well, apparently an eye twitch isn’t really random and is actually a warning sign that something might be wrong. The most common reasons for an eye twitch that I could find include:

  1. Fatigue
  2. Stress
  3. Lack of Sleep
  4. Caffeine
  5. Nutritional Imbalances

There are many others as well that range from dry eyes to allergies to eye strain to physical exertion. Now, not all of these are major flashing warning signs. But pretty much all of them are within our control. The common reasons listed above, however, are ones that are hinting at the fact that there might be a lifestyle change required. Since becoming aware of this information, I have absolutely noticed how my eye will twitch on days when I’m tired or really stressed out or over-caffeinated. This eye twitch has become a warning sign that I am not in balance. Now, I do not pretend to have the answer for how to fix this all. In fact, as I write this I’m having a slight eye twitch. (Although I blame eye strain for this one.) I did, however, find some ideas and tactics that I will be employing in the near future! I encourage you to investigate and consider doing the same:

  1. Get more sleep! This is kind of obvious but it impacts so many aspects of life. Make a concerted effort to get to bed earlier and rest up. It will help you out so much in the end.
  2. Reduce caffeine. Yeah, I know you are tired and that caffeine is literally the only thing keeping you from becoming a zombie but it is not helping you in the long-run! Start weaning yourself off by swapping in some tea or matcha.
  3. Adjust your diet. Get rid of crappy foods (or at least lower how much of them you are eating) and stock up on fresh fruits and vegetables. Cleansing your body will allow it to work more efficiently and keep you more alert.
  4. Reduce stress and reduce it now. This is something you should do regardless of whether or not you have an eye twitch. Stress has terrible side effects across the board for people. Your body will thank you later.

I wish you a swift end to eye twitches (and overall better health)!

  1. I hope you’re taking the vitamins I bought for you. Did you get the Magnesium Calm powder in the order? I didn’t notice it at your house, and it might help with the twitching too. Do you drink enough water to stay hydrated? I know you don’t get enough sleep, and the magnesium could help with that too. Take care of yourself, my love!

Greg left for NYC today. Want to chat sometime soon? I’d love to catch up with you.

    Love, Mom
