A Letter to my Son on his 1st Birthday

My sweet boy,

I can’t believe it’s already been a year since you were born. You were deeply prayed for, wanted, and have been a tremendous blessing to us. Watching you grow and explore has been the greatest joy of my life.

You’ve had quite a year! You moved from Oklahoma to Philadelphia when you were just two weeks old. You have been on fourteen plane rides (if you include connections!). You’ve gotten to meet all sorts of family and spent time with THREE great-grandparents. You’ve moved into your own big boy room (hallelujah), but have yet to sleep through the night. (I know it’s because you like snuggling with us too much and that’s okay with me.)

You’ve tried lots of food, but mango is still the #1 fan favorite! You love being outside and getting to explore the world around you. You are sitting, standing, crawling, and almost walking on your own. Your laugh is the most beautiful sound I’ve ever heard in my life. You love swinging and chewing on everything. You are eager to help and are such a sweet helper! You still love being held, and I will hold you as long as you’ll let me.

As you enter this next year of life, my prayer for you is this:

Dear Lord, I pray that you watch over this sweet boy. Guide his life to glorify you. Help him to continue to grow and learn. Allow him to feel your comfort and protection as he has new experiences and challenges. Help him to walk through each day feeling loved, heard, and understood.

Lord I also pray for myself and for Nick as we parent. Allow us to respond to our son with love, calm, and understanding, representing you to him. We dedicate him to you and desire that you will use his life in a powerful way, and ask that you use us to achieve this.

My little bug, you are such a gift. Your dad and I love you so much and want to soak up every moment of every day with you. We are so blessed to have been chosen to be your parents. You are more than we could have ever imagined.

Happy birthday.

    1. Thank you!! I’m hoping to document letters to him over the years and give him them maybe on his 18th birthday. 🙂
